Property Offences and Police Powers
Welcome to Unit 5! This unit will be looking at property offences and the different elements in criminal law that change the offence. The main area is theft, and there are a lot of areas to study in the sections. The breakdown below explains the areas of law that you will be covering.
Theft
This is the offence of stealing. The page also includes Robbery, which is where there is a completed theft with the threat or use of serious force.
Burglary
This section will look at the Theft Act 1968 and the two seperate offences under 9(1)(a) and 9(1)(b).
Fraud
This area of law is about deceptions and lying to make gains or cause a loss. We will look into how the offence can be committed, as well as two other offences that come with lying or deceiving either machines or people.
This section will look at the four offences created by the Criminal Damage Act 1971. They are all very similar but have variants in their elements that mean they can change in sentence depending which offence applies and the defendant is charged with.
